Rep. Andy Biggs, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 5th district since 2017, posted a series of tweets on September 10, 2025, criticizing Democratic leadership in Washington, D.C., and expressing support for former President Donald Trump’s approach to crime in the capital.

In a tweet at 15:08 UTC, Biggs stated: “Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress explicit authority to legislate in the District of Columbia. D.C.’s radical Left leaders and Democrats in Congress support more crime. President @realDonaldTrump and Republicans are actively combating crime.”

Later that day at 16:22 UTC, he wrote: “.@OversightDems oppose making D.C. safe and beautiful because doing so would ‘disparage D.C.’ But the results of President Trump’s Crime Crackdown speak for themselves:”

At 16:28 UTC, Biggs continued his criticism with another post: “ABSURD. Arizona’s @RepYassAnsari thinks President Trump is a dictator for making D.C. safe. Democrats are pro-crime.”

Biggs has represented Arizona’s 5th Congressional District since replacing Richard Miranda in 2017 and previously served in the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2017. Born in Tucson in 1958, he currently resides in Gilbert and holds degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Arizona.

The debate over congressional authority regarding Washington, D.C., stems from Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, which gives Congress power to legislate for the district. Political disagreements over crime policy in D.C. have persisted for years.
