Rep. Andy Biggs, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 5th district since 2017, used his social media platform on September 30, 2025, to comment on voting rights and the ongoing government shutdown debate involving Democratic lawmakers.

In a post published at 12:58 p.m. UTC, Biggs stated, “Illegal aliens should never be able to vote in American elections. It’s common sense.”

Shortly after, at 1:01 p.m. UTC, he addressed House Democrats directly by writing, “Nice photo op, @HouseDemocrats. They’re celebrating the Schumer Shutdown.”

Later that afternoon at 4:06 p.m. UTC, Biggs criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer regarding federal funding for healthcare for undocumented immigrants and its connection to the potential government shutdown. He wrote, “Chuck Schumer used to agree that taxpayer dollars shouldn’t fund benefits for illegal aliens. Now he’s threatening to shut down the government over free healthcare for illegal aliens. Schumer owns the shutdown.”

Biggs has represented Arizona’s 5th District in Congress since replacing Richard Miranda in 2017 and previously served in the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2017. Born in Tucson in 1958 and currently residing in Gilbert, Biggs holds degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Arizona.
