Arizona State University (ASU) has announced the creation of ASU London, a new U.K.-accredited higher education institution. This move expands ASU’s presence in the United Kingdom and builds on its earlier collaboration with The Engineering & Design Institute London (TEDI-London), which was co-created by ASU in 2020.
ASU London will offer project-based programs in engineering that originated at TEDI-London, along with new degrees in business management, computer science, and electrical and electronic engineering. Students can pursue a three-year U.K. bachelor’s degree from ASU London followed by an accelerated one-year master’s degree from Arizona State University. This structure allows students to earn two international degrees within four years.
“ASU London helps students to become master problem-solvers who can succeed in the evolving global economy,” said ASU President Michael M. Crow. “ASU London combines the appeal of British higher education with American innovation in applied learning, all from one of the world’s great cities.
“These are complex, demanding times for students, and we have designed ASU London to provide them with a compelling new way they can gain both an international experience and prepare for their careers, in the U.K. and the U.S.”
Programs at ASU London are developed in collaboration with academics from both countries and industry experts to ensure practical learning experiences. Students will study in central London under faculty based in the U.K., as well as collaborate with faculty from ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and W. P. Carey School of Business.
“Arizona State University is among the top U.S. universities for graduate employment,” said Professor Sir Malcolm Grant, chair of the board of trustee directors of ASU London. “ASU London allows students to learn as professionals in training — working on real projects, developing technical, professional and leadership skills sought by employers worldwide.”
The university is known for its commitment to innovation; it was named number one in innovation for eight consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report according to this report: https://news.asu.edu/20220911-university-news-asu-no-1-innovation-us-news-world-report-eighth-year?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=asu&utm_campaign=ASURankings&utm_term=USNWR
“We’re in the business of changing people’s lives and changing people’s futures,” Crow said. “We will continue to expand our efforts and our impact to engage with learners all over the world.”
In autumn, ASU London will relocate to its own space on City St George’s Clerkenwell campus at University of London, allowing students access to a vibrant academic community.
Catherine O’Donnell, assistant vice provost for undergraduate education at ASU, explained that ASU London follows TEDI-London’s “learn by doing” approach: “When the business students arrive, they’re considered entrepreneurs and they’re engaged in projects from day one. When engineering students arrive, they’re considered engineers engaged in projects from day one,” she said. She added that sustainability and artificial intelligence are core parts of the curriculum: “It’s not an add-in, it’s part of the ethos.”
Projects will focus on areas such as smart cities, sustainability, user-centered design and manufacturing — all co-designed with industry partners.
ASU London is described as an independent institution rather than a branch campus or subsidiary of ASU itself. It is being developed alongside Cintana Education — which partners with ASU to offer educational resources globally — providing another option for more than 330,000 students already involved through the ASU-Cintana Alliance.
Events are planned this fall to celebrate the launch of ASU London. In addition, Arizona State University will play against the University of Kansas during college football’s Union Jack Classic at Wembley Stadium on September 19, 2026.
“ASU is deeply committed to preparing students to contribute as global citizens — individuals who can bridge cultural perspectives, collaborate across borders and contribute solutions to the pressing challenges of our time,” said Nancy Gonzales, executive vice president and university provost at ASU.
“ASU London represents an extraordinary opportunity for ASU to extend that mission. By embedding students in the heart of one of the world’s great cities and providing pathways to ASU graduate degrees in high-demand fields, we are creating a unique opportunity for interested students across the globe.”
