Sofie Theurer, a senior at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, Arizona, has achieved a perfect composite score of 36 on the ACT exam. This accomplishment is rare, with only 0.21% of students nationwide earning this score out of more than 1.3 million test-takers, according to recent data from the ACT Profile Report.
Theurer was also named a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, an honor given to the top 1% of PSAT participants across the country.
She credits her achievement to steady preparation and hard work rather than innate intelligence. “I think sometimes people assume it’s all about being naturally smart, but honestly, most of it is being consistent and putting in effort,” Theurer said. “It really comes down to being dedicated to the process, and I believe anyone who tries hard enough can succeed in anything they do.”
In offering advice to other students preparing for college entrance exams like the ACT and SAT, Theurer recommends taking practice tests to become familiar with their structure and improve time management skills. She also encourages reading books and short stories as an effective way to build comprehension abilities needed for standardized tests.
Tyler Dumas, Principal of Campo Verde High School, praised Sofie’s achievements: “Sofie’s excellence in the ACT and PSAT is a testament to her incredible dedication and commitment to learning. She truly embodies the spirit of Campo Verde High, which is rooted in our core focus of ‘Every Person, Every Day.’ We are immensely proud of Sofie for demonstrating the commitment to excellence that we champion in all our students.”
Theurer plans to pursue college studies focused on finance or accounting.
