Chandler announces schedule of holiday festivities across downtown

Chandler, Arizona is offering a range of holiday events and activities for residents and visitors throughout December. The city’s annual Tumbleweed Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6 in Downtown Chandler. This event includes visits with Santa, an inflatable play area, over 50 illuminated parade entries, and the official lighting of the Tumbleweed Tree. The tree will remain lit nightly through Jan. 4.

Santa’s House will be open on select dates in December at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park for free photos with Santa. Downtown Chandler will also feature Holiday Magic displays called Sugarland, which provide interactive backdrops for photos.

Additional family-friendly activities include the Polar Express event at Tumbleweed Recreation Center and C-Town: Snow Day at Chandler Museum. The Chandler Fire Department is conducting its annual Toy Drive to collect toys and gift cards for families in need, with collection points at fire stations, the Fire Administration Building, as well as special events like “Stuff the Truck” during the tree lighting ceremony and a toy drive at Chandler Fashion Center.

The Community Cares Chandler Library Tree initiative encourages donations to assist those experiencing homelessness; participants can pick up tags from any library branch through Dec. 12.

Other scheduled events include performances of “The Nutcracker” by Ballet Etudes at Chandler Center for the Arts through Dec. 7, craft workshops like Make and Take: Perler Bead Ornaments at Vision Gallery on Dec. 6, Jingle Paws with Santa Claus at Chandler Senior Center on Dec. 12 (for pet photos), Sippin’ Santas Pub Crawl in Downtown Chandler on Dec. 13, Swim with Santa at Desert Oasis Aquatic Center also on Dec. 13, Play Day: Reindeer Games and Gift Wrap Exchange at Chandler Museum on Dec. 14, Ugly Sweater Tennis Social at Chandler Tennis Center on Dec. 20, and All About Broadway: A New Year’s Eve Celebration at Chandler Center for the Arts on Dec. 31.

The four branches of the Chandler Public Library are hosting free holiday programs including crafts, storytelling sessions, puzzle tournaments for teens and adults (Dec. 6), DIY ugly sweater crafting (Dec. 8), ornament making (Dec. 9), movie screenings (Dec.10), gift-wrapping parties (Dec.13), cookie decorating and caroling (Dec .16).

“Chandler is your destination for fun, festive events this holiday season,” according to city officials.
