The Chandler City Council has approved an employment agreement with John Pombier to serve as city manager through June 2027. Pombier had previously been appointed acting city manager on July 13, 2025.

“I’ve always admired the greatness of Chandler and these past few months have produced first-hand experiences demonstrating why our community is such a special place,” said Pombier. “I am proud to serve Chandler businesses and residents and appreciate the tremendous support of the City Council, city employees and community partners.”

Pombier’s appointment follows a long career in public service that spans 27 years, including roles with Mesa, Phoenix, and the Arizona Governor’s Office. He retired from Mesa in 2022 after serving for 19 years, which included time as assistant city manager and as city prosecutor.

Before his tenure in Mesa, Pombier worked at the Arizona Governor’s Office as Deputy General Counsel for two years and spent one year directing the Division for Prevention of Family Violence. He also served six years with the City of Phoenix Prosecutor’s Office, where he was lead attorney for the Domestic Violence Unit for five years.

Pombier holds a law degree from Arizona State University’s School of Law and has been admitted to the State Bar of Arizona since 1994. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.
