The Chandler Fire Department will offer a free emergency preparedness course for local residents in September. The Basic Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is scheduled for two consecutive Saturdays, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Chandler Public Safety Training Center located at 3550 S. Dobson Road.
This program provides both classroom and hands-on instruction covering topics such as fire safety, utility control, light search and rescue, and basic medical care. Registration is required due to limited space, and those interested can sign up through CERT Training.
Participants will learn about hazards that may affect Chandler, as well as the roles of organizations like police and fire departments, government agencies, public utilities, and non-profits during emergencies. The course also covers how to assemble family emergency kits for homes and vehicles.
“Some of the potential hazards we Arizonans can face are strong winds, flooding, heat waves, power outages and fires, along with the possibility of man-made threats,” said Chandler Battalion Chief Blas Minor. “Our goal is to give residents the tools, information and coping skills they need to care for themselves and their families for up to 72 hours following a natural or man-made disaster.”
Additional information about the CERT course is available by calling 480-782-2120, emailing chandlerfire@chandleraz.gov or visiting Chandler Fire.
