The Arizona Supreme Court has presented the Chandler Municipal Court with the Strategic Agenda Award for Advancement in Technology. The award recognizes the court’s Instant Language Assistant program, which was introduced in 2024. The announcement was made during the 2025 Court Leadership Conference in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The Chandler Municipal Court received the award for its efforts to improve accessibility and customer service for residents who have limited English proficiency. The Instant Language Assistant (ILA) is a tablet-based system that provides real-time, two-way translation in over 250 languages. The system is available at public service windows and allows court staff to communicate with visitors in their preferred language, helping to explain procedures, process payments, and provide information more accurately.

Presiding Judge Alicia Skupin stated, “We’re honored to be recognized by the Arizona Supreme Court for our continued efforts to enhance accessibility, improve the customer experience and make our visitors feel more comfortable. The Instant Language Assistant is a great example of how we’re leveraging technology to make court services more inclusive for the public.”

Chandler Municipal Court serves over 250 customers each day and processes approximately 45,000 cases annually. The award emphasizes the court’s focus on innovation and ensuring equitable access to justice.
