The City of Chandler Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities has opened applications for its annual scholarship program and the 2026 Disability Awareness Awards.
The scholarship is designed to support Chandler residents with disabilities who are pursuing educational or career objectives. Recipients may receive a one-time award of up to $1,000, which will be paid directly to an institution or used for approved supplies. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, and a demonstrated commitment to their field of study or service. Applications will be accepted until March 31, with funds distributed as early as June 2026.
Nominations are also open for the 2026 Disability Awareness Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations making significant contributions toward inclusion in Chandler’s disability community. The nomination process is free and available to all residents of Chandler. Nominations must be submitted by January 30.
Nomination guidelines, detailed criteria, and submission forms can be found at Chandler Disability Awareness Awards.
Mayor Kevin Hartke and the Chandler City Council will present the awards during a city council meeting scheduled for February.
“Chandler is a community focused on inclusivity and empowering people with disabilities,” said Becky Kuiper, Chandler recreation superintendent. “The Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities is focused on ensuring Chandler remains a place where people of all abilities can travel, learn, work and play.”
The committee advises the council and city leaders on policies related to accessibility, education, and employment while advocating for residents experiencing physical, developmental, or age-related disabilities.
