Chandler Vice Mayor Christine Ellis has been named one of the Women Achievers of Arizona by the Arizona Capital Times. The award recognizes women for their impact, innovation, inspiration, leadership, and representation in various fields.
“I am deeply honored to share this recognition with an incredible group of women in our state,“ said Ellis. “As the first Black woman vice mayor and the first Haitian American to serve on Chandler’s City Council, I carry the responsibility to lead with compassion, vision and courage. I remain committed to uplifting Chandler and Arizona through collaboration, advocacy and service.”
Ellis received her award at a ceremony held on October 22 at the Arizona Biltmore. The event celebrated women making significant contributions in areas such as corporate leadership, education, environmental impact, government and public service, healthcare, legal work, nonprofits, policy and advocacy, as well as technology and innovation.
“This recognition reflects the countless women, mentors and community members who have walked alongside me in service,” said Ellis. “My hope is that this award inspires young women, especially those from underrepresented communities, to know that their voices matter and their leadership is needed.”
Ellis joined the Chandler City Council in January 2021. She is currently serving her second term on the council and was appointed vice mayor in January 2025. In addition to her role on the council, she serves on several boards and committees at regional, state and national levels.
In July 2025 Ellis became Vice Chair of the Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee at the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG). She previously served as Vice Chair of MAG’s Regional Domestic Violence Council and was a member of MAG’s Human Services and Community Initiatives Committee.
With more than three decades of experience as a registered nurse specializing in elder care, Ellis also sits on the board of the Arizona Board of Nursing.
She further contributes through participation in several National League of Cities committees including Human Development Committee, National Black Caucus, University Communities Council and Women in Municipal Government.
