The City of Chandler has announced plans to raise utility rates for several services in response to increased operating and infrastructure costs. The proposed changes include a 15% increase for both water and wastewater services, an 18% rise for reclaimed water, and a 6% hike for solid waste utilities.

City officials cited higher expenses for chemicals and electricity needed to provide safe drinking water and treat wastewater as factors driving the rate increases. Additionally, the city noted that contracted costs associated with solid waste, recycling collections, and waste hauling have also gone up.

Inflation has contributed to rising prices for materials required in capital construction projects aimed at improving water and wastewater facilities. The city indicated that it plans to undertake more projects than before to address aging infrastructure. These efforts will focus on replacing mains, constructing and rehabilitating wells, as well as assessing and rehabilitating sewer systems.

The planned adjustments will apply to all customer categories. This includes single-family homes, multi-family residences, non-residential users, landscape customers, and industrial users for water services. For wastewater services, the changes will affect single-family, multi-family, and non-residential classes.

The new rates are scheduled to take effect on March 2, 2026. A series of public meetings is set to be held regarding these proposed changes. More information about the rate adjustments and a calculator allowing residents to estimate how their bills may change can be accessed online.
