The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce has established the Veterans Business Council (VBC) to support veterans transitioning into the workforce and business community. The council aims to help veterans leverage their skills in leadership, discipline, and resilience by offering professional development opportunities and fostering connections within Gilbert.
According to the Chamber, “The Veterans Business Council (VBC) was created with a clear purpose: to empower and inspire veterans in the workforce by providing opportunities for leadership development and fostering collaborative connections. Through intentional programming, mentorship, and recognition, the Council supports veterans in growing their businesses, advancing their careers, and making a powerful impact in the community they continue to serve.”
The VBC organizes four annual events designed to engage veterans and local business leaders. These include a Glow Golf Tournament that promotes camaraderie and competition; a Networking Social for relationship building; a Veterans Breakfast featuring guest speakers who address veteran entrepreneurs; and a Veterans Business Expo that highlights veteran-owned or veteran-friendly businesses.
In addition to these events, the council runs year-round initiatives such as Veteran Recognition Programs that honor service members’ contributions. It also manages a Military Discount Website connecting service members, veterans, and families with local businesses that offer exclusive discounts.
“This is about creating a supportive, mission-driven network where veterans can thrive, grow professionally, and contribute significantly to Gilbert’s business landscape,” said Elaine Kessler of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce.
Kessler added: “When veterans succeed in business, our entire community benefits — from the growth of local enterprises to the example set for future generations about the value of service, leadership, and perseverance.”
Community members are encouraged by the Chamber to participate in VBC activities through event attendance or mentorship opportunities. “Whether you are a veteran, a business owner, or a community member who wants to give back, there’s a place for you in the Veterans Business Council. Attend an event. Offer mentorship. Share resources. Together, we can help those who served our country continue to serve — this time, in the boardroom, the marketplace, and the heart of our community,” said Kessler.
