Across the Gilbert Public Schools District, fall activities are bringing together students, families, and educators in a series of events that combine learning with seasonal celebrations. The district’s schools have organized a range of activities such as parades, festivals, Trunk-or-Treats, and cultural observances to engage their communities.
At Burk Elementary School, the annual Monster Math event is designed to make math engaging for students and their families. After a costume parade, classrooms are set up as themed spaces where students participate in various math games and activities. These include games like Fraction War, Bump Out, Witches’ Brew, Frankenstein Heads, and Haunted Number Hunt. The goal is to encourage students to practice math skills through interactive challenges that do not require specialized materials.
Sean Kerr, a fifth-grade teacher at Burk Elementary, commented on the event: “Our goal is to show families that math can be both engaging and accessible. Our staff has done a wonderful job creating activities that make learning exciting. I’m so proud of the work they’ve put in to make this parent engagement day a success.”
Other schools across the district are also hosting fall-themed events. Greenfield Elementary’s Fall Festival features music, food trucks, games, and a petting zoo. Carol Rae Ranch and Highland Park Elementary hold Trunk-or-Treat events for families. Settler’s Point and Towne Meadows combine fitness with family fun at their gatherings. Gilbert Elementary celebrates Día de los Muertos with art and performances highlighting tradition and heritage.
Secondary schools are involved as well; Highland Junior High is organizing a haunted house while Mesquite High and Gilbert High are holding Trunk-or-Treats with live music and food trucks for their communities.
The district says these events reflect its commitment to prioritizing learning while welcoming families into school communities during the Halloween season.
