Gilbert Public Schools has begun the search for a new superintendent following the planned retirement of Dr. Shane McCord at the end of the current school year. The district is looking for a certified and highly qualified candidate to fill the role, with an anticipated start date no later than July 1, 2026.

The Governing Board has hired McPherson & Jacobson, LLC, Executive Recruitment and Development to assist in identifying and screening applicants. Community members will have an opportunity to provide feedback through an upcoming survey as part of the selection process.

According to the district, candidates should demonstrate experience in developing and executing strategic educational plans that lead to improved student achievement. Other key qualities sought include inspirational leadership skills, strong communication abilities, transparency in leadership, and a commitment to building community trust and support.

“The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make,” according to Gilbert Public Schools.

The application deadline for interested candidates is December 19, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. central time. Finalists will be selected by January 13, 2026, with interviews scheduled for the week of January 26, 2026. The date for announcing the new superintendent has not yet been determined.
