Rep. Greg Stanton, a Democratic member of Congress from Arizona, posted a series of tweets on October 15 and 16, 2025, addressing the ongoing government shutdown and related issues in Washington.

On October 15, Stanton commented on legal rulings concerning employment during government shutdowns, stating, “The courts agree: mass firing of public servants is ILLEGAL during a shutdown.”

Later that evening, Stanton referenced fellow Arizona representative Adelita Grijalva and criticized the Speaker of the House for his treatment of her. He wrote on October 16, “Adelita Grijalva is smart, successful, and 800,000 Arizonans hired her to represent them in Washington. But sure, Mr. Speaker, mansplain to her how Congress works while you come up with more BS excuses to keep her from voting to release the Epstein files.”

In another tweet on October 16 regarding efforts to resolve the government shutdown, Stanton said, “Democrats are showing up to negotiate an end to the shutdown. We’re ready to get started as soon as the Republicans care to join us.”

Stanton has represented Arizona in Congress since first winning election in 2018. In recent elections he defeated Kelly Cooper—winning by a margin of approximately seven percentage points in 2024 and thirteen points in 2022.
