Rep. Greg Stanton, a U.S. Congressman who secured re-election in both 2022 and 2024, recently addressed several pressing issues in a series of posts on his social media account.
On October 13, 2025, Stanton commented on the ongoing federal government shutdown and congressional inactivity, stating, “We’re in the midst of a shutdown, and the House of Representatives hasn’t been in session for weeks. Republicans and Democrats should stay in Washington until a bipartisan deal is struck.”
Later that day, Stanton issued a public safety notice regarding severe weather conditions in his district: “Storms are still sweeping through the Valley today. As you make plans, be sure to keep an eye on the weather and try to charge phones and medical devices. Flash flooding and downpours can happen unexpectedly, so be careful if you need to travel or expect to be outdoors.” This message highlighted concerns about flash flooding and power outages affecting residents.
In a third post commemorating a national milestone, Stanton recognized the U.S. Navy’s anniversary: “From wooden ships to aircraft carriers, the @USNavy has defended America and our ideals for 250 years. Thank you sailors, veterans, and families of all who have served our country since 1775.”
Stanton has represented his district following victories over Kelly Cooper in two consecutive general elections: in 2022 with 56% of the vote and in 2024 with 52.7%. These results reflect his continued support among constituents.
The government shutdown referenced by Stanton has led to a suspension of regular legislative sessions in the House of Representatives. Shutdowns can disrupt federal operations and services until lawmakers reach a funding agreement.
Stanton’s remarks on public safety come amid ongoing concerns about extreme weather events in Arizona’s Valley region. Such warnings are common during periods of heightened risk from storms or flash floods.
His acknowledgment of the Navy’s 250th anniversary aligns with national celebrations marking two-and-a-half centuries since its founding in 1775.
