Rep. Greg Stanton, a U.S. Congressman who secured re-election in both 2022 and 2024, has used his social media platform to address recent events in the House of Representatives and call for action on political speech.
On October 8, 2025, Stanton criticized House Republicans, writing, “House Republicans are gaveling us out and shutting down the House to avoid swearing in Adelita Grijalva. It is undemocratic and unacceptable.”
Later that day, Stanton engaged in a lighthearted exchange about basketball with another member of Congress, stating, “You’re on, @RepHorsford — as long as you’ll do the same with @satou_sabally’s when @PhoenixMercury sweeps the floor with them! “ on October 8, 2025.
On October 9, 2025, Stanton addressed concerns about political rhetoric, posting, “Violent political speech needs to stop. @RepYassAnsari, Rep.-elect Grijalva, and I are demanding the state legislature take action against state Rep. Gillette for his threats against our colleague @RepJayapal.”
Stanton’s recent posts come after his electoral victories over Kelly Cooper in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections. In 2024, he won with 52.7% of the vote compared to Cooper’s 45.5%, and in 2022, he received 56% of the vote to Cooper’s 43.1%.
