Rep. Greg Stanton, a U.S. Congressman who won re-election in both 2022 and 2024 against Kelly Cooper, used his social media platform to voice concerns about former President Donald Trump’s approach to military loyalty, foreign policy toward Mexico, and relations with NATO.

On January 5, 2026, Stanton posted: “In Trump’s America, the military is loyal to him, not to the Constitution. So when a decorated combat veteran like @SenMarkKelly defends the rule of law, Trump punishes him for it.

The message is clear: fall in line, or Trump will come for you. This authoritarian intimidation”.

The following day, on January 6, he addressed U.S.-Mexico relations and security cooperation by stating: “The best way for the U.S. to fight the Mexican cartels is by working through our security partnerships with the Mexican government.

Trump’s threats of unilateral military action jeopardizes our security and trade relationship with Mexico.”

Later that same day, Stanton commented on U.S. relations with NATO allies: “Trump’s chest thumping over Greenland is putting the entire NATO alliance at risk.”

Stanton has served as a member of Congress since defeating Kelly Cooper in consecutive general elections—winning by a margin of 52.7% to 45.5% in 2024 and by 56% to 43.1% in 2022.

His recent posts reflect ongoing debates within American politics regarding presidential authority over the military, strategies for addressing international crime syndicates such as Mexican cartels through bilateral cooperation rather than unilateral action—which some argue could strain diplomatic and economic ties—and concerns about maintaining strong alliances within organizations like NATO.
