Rep. Greg Stanton, a U.S. Congressman from Arizona, posted a series of statements on January 5, 2026, expressing concern over former President Donald Trump’s comments regarding Venezuela and urging more congressional oversight.

In his first post, Stanton stated: “When Trump says his team is ‘running’ Venezuela, he invites copycat aggression from America’s adversaries.” (January 5, 2026).

Later the same day, Stanton called for increased Republican participation in Congress to counterbalance presidential power. He wrote: “We need more Republicans in Congress to help reign in this president and re-establish the proper role of the U.S. Congress. This is not about partisanship; it’s about standing up for the Constitution, because the Constitution is worth fighting for.” (January 5, 2026).

In a third statement on social media, Stanton reiterated his position by saying: “The American people don’t want the Trump team ‘running’ Venezuela.” (January 5, 2026).

Stanton has represented Arizona in Congress since defeating Kelly Cooper in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections. In 2024, he won with approximately 52.7% of the vote compared to Cooper’s 45.5%. Two years earlier in 2022, he secured victory with around 56% against Cooper’s roughly 43% share.
