Jay Feely, Republican candidate for Congress in Arizona’s 1st District, said he departed a successful broadcasting role to pursue policies that enhance job opportunities and mitigate economic pressures stemming from government expenditures.
“my priorities in congress will be to create equal opportunities & pathways to success,” said Feely, Congressional Candidate. “i chose to leave a lucrative career to serve in congress. we must continue to address the affordability crisis driven by reckless spending, fraud and waste in our government. political office should be a sacrifice, a service to those you represent.”
According to Feely, he shared his campaign priorities for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District on X, emphasizing his experience in the National Football League (NFL) and broadcasting. He outlined plans to support economic opportunities while addressing concerns about previous federal fiscal policies.
In Arizona, home prices in Greater Phoenix have decreased by 6.9 percent from their peak in 2022 but remain 53.6 percent higher than 2019 levels amid ongoing affordability challenges. Mortgage rates at 6.82 percent have increased the cost of servicing new loans compared to pre-pandemic figures. The average home price of $434,797 exceeds projected trends by $62,826, affecting buyer access across the state.
In the United States, research findings indicate that federal spending post-pandemic contributed to inflation spikes in 2022. Policies intended for recovery amplified price increases beyond supply factors across various sectors. Household budgets faced strains due to these fiscal measures during this period.
Feely was born on May 23, 1976, in Odessa, Florida. He played college football at the University of Michigan and contributed to the team’s national title win in 1997. His NFL career as a placekicker spanned 14 years with teams such as the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals, achieving an 82.6 percent field goal rate. After retiring from professional football, he analyzed games for CBS before launching a Republican bid for Arizona’s 1st congressional district in 2025.
