Jay Feely, Republican candidate for Congress in Arizona’s 1st District, said fraud schemes in Minnesota happened because of lapses or complicity by Gov. Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison and urged reviews of donations from those involved.
“Gov. Tim Walz & AG Keith Ellison at a minimum allowed this to happen with negligent accountability to American taxpayers,” said Feely, Congressional Candidate. “At worst participated in the fraud. Campaign donations from the very ones committing the fraud should be completely investigated and prosecuted if applicable.”
According to Feely, who posted on X in response to Speaker Mike Johnson’s announcement about expanding investigations into Minnesota fraud cases, state leaders were responsible for the schemes through inadequate monitoring or participation. The post suggested that these failures could be linked to improper financial ties in political campaigns.
Minnesota authorities have identified multiple fraud operations within social services, including child care and autism programs connected to Somali providers. Federal charges have affected dozens of individuals, with total estimated losses exceeding $9 billion due to misused pandemic funds. Oversight deficiencies allowed the creation of shell entities that siphoned resources intended for vulnerable populations.
Federal oversight has revealed extensive fraud in U.S. COVID-19 aid initiatives across unemployment and business support sectors. Enforcement agencies identified over 3,500 defendants involved in schemes attempting to defraud more than $10 billion nationwide. While recoveries reached billions, these incidents exposed systemic weaknesses in emergency fund administration during the crisis.
Feely was born on May 23, 1976, in Odessa, Florida. He played football at the University of Michigan as part of the 1997 national championship team and pursued a 14-year NFL career as a kicker for teams such as the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals. After his playing days, he analyzed games for CBS Sports before entering politics as a Republican candidate seeking Arizona’s 1st congressional district seat.
