Kyrene School District has announced a series of public hearings to gather community input on proposed changes to school boundaries and the possible consolidation of schools. The district will hold six regional hearings, as well as a central district hearing, over the next several weeks.
The central district hearing is scheduled for November 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Kyrene School District Office in Tempe. This meeting will take place before the regular governing board meeting, with a full agenda to be posted ten days prior.
Regional hearings will begin on October 16, 2025, at Kyrene Middle School in Tempe. Additional meetings are set for October 21 at Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School in Phoenix; October 29 at Kyrene Centennial Middle School in Phoenix; November 5 at Kyrene del Pueblo Middle School in Chandler; November 12 at Kyrene Altadeña Middle School in Phoenix; and November 19 at Kyrene Aprende Middle School in Chandler. All hearings will start at 6:00 p.m., with doors opening thirty minutes before each event.
According to the district, “The purpose of the public hearings is for the Kyrene Governing Board to hear community feedback before making a decision. The board will not vote or take any action during the hearings.”
Members of the public can address the board directly during these hearings. Each speaker will be given two minutes, and there is no limit on the number of speakers who may participate.
For those unable to attend in person, written comments can be submitted electronically through an online form by noon on the day of each hearing. These comments “will not be read aloud, but they will be reviewed by the board, recorded and filed online as part of the official record of each hearing.”
The district has also arranged for all hearings to be streamed live online, with recordings posted within forty-eight hours for later viewing.
The school board aims to use feedback from these sessions before making any decisions regarding school boundaries or closures.
