Mekong Plaza in Mesa has completed a $10 million expansion, adding 32,000 square feet and about 200 jobs to the Asian District. The new development brings 12 additional businesses to the plaza, including Haidilao Hot Pot—a well-known international Chinese hot pot chain—and Udon Shin, a Tokyo-based udon restaurant making its first appearance in the United States.

Mayor Mark Freeman commented on the significance of this growth for the city: “Mesa is proud to see the continued growth and success of Mekong Plaza in our Asian District. This expansion demonstrates the hard work, entrepreneurship, and the strong community partnerships that keep Mesa a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”

District 3 Councilmember Francisco Heredia highlighted both economic and cultural benefits: “The Asian District continues to thrive as a cultural and economic destination in Mesa, and the Mekong Plaza expansion reinforces that momentum. This project strengthens our local economy, provides new opportunities for small businesses, and celebrates the vibrant diversity that defines our community.”

Mekong Plaza now covers more than 100,000 square feet along Dobson Road and Main Street. It remains an important site within Mesa’s Asian District by offering restaurants, markets, and specialty retailers that showcase various Asian cultures.

Peter Quach, developer of Mekong Plaza and one of those who helped establish Mesa’s Asian District, said: “When we first opened Mekong Plaza, our goal was to create a place where people could experience Asian culture through food, shopping, and community. It’s rewarding to see how much the District has grown and how Mesa has embraced this vision.”

Jaye O’Donnell from Mesa’s Office of Economic Development added: “The expanded plaza will help attract investment and activity to the district, creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and highlighting the area’s reputation as a center for international cuisine and cultural experiences.”
