Mesa Community College announced on April 13 that it will host a series of free, public events to celebrate Earth Week from April 17 to April 23 at its Southern and Dobson Campus and Red Mountain Campus. The activities are designed to bring together community members, students, and employees for interactive experiences focused on sustainability and environmental awareness.
The event lineup includes hands-on opportunities such as the Pollinator Patrol on April 17, where volunteers can help maintain the Monarch Waystation and pollinator habitat by weeding, planting, cleaning, labeling, and recording data. On April 18, the Wings and Wonders Open House will allow visitors to explore the garden near the Health and Wellness building while learning about native plants that support essential pollinators like bees and butterflies.
From April 20 through April 23 at Red Mountain Campus’s Saguaro building lobby, a Clothing Swap encourages participants to trade gently used clothing items. Other activities include seed ball making for native gardens on April 20 at Kirk Student Center Lobby; a Trash-Ure Hunt with music and giveaways supporting recycling efforts on April 21; electronics recycling in partnership with AZStRUT launching MCC’s eWaste Collection Bin on April 22; campus clean-up sessions at both campuses also on April 22; and Bags2Beds workshops turning grocery bags into mats for organizations aiding unhoused individuals on April 23-24.
