The City of Mesa is joining forces with United Food Bank for the 17th annual Turkey Tuesday event, aiming to collect frozen turkeys and cash donations to support families in need during the holiday season. The donation drive will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Mesa Convention Center North Parking Lot from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Organizers have set a goal of gathering 2,000 turkeys and $20,000 in cash contributions.
“Mesa has always been a city built on community, service and shared purpose. With our 17-year Turkey Tuesday tradition, we’re once again stepping up together to ensure every family in our city can enjoy a meaningful Thanksgiving,” said Mayor Mark Freeman.
Since its inception, Turkey Tuesday has resulted in an estimated total of 20,000 turkeys and $200,000 in donations for local families. This year’s event is supported by sponsors Desert Financial Credit Union, State Farm, and the Arizona Cardinals, who will match monetary donations up to $75,000.
Donors are encouraged to bring frozen turkeys as well as canned goods or cash donations to the event. Each $31 raised provides a turkey for a family in need. Cash donations can also be made online at feedaz.org.
“We are honored to once again be the recipient of the City of Mesa’s annual Turkey Tuesday,” said Jason Reed, CEO of United Food Bank. “Each year, United Food Bank helps thousands of Arizona families share a traditional holiday meal. We are grateful to the generous donors who make this possible; your contributions truly make a difference in the lives of those in need this holiday season.”
Food collected during Turkey Tuesday will be distributed on Nov. 19 at United Food Bank’s annual Thanksgiving Holiday Distribution for eligible residents from 9 a.m. until supplies run out.
