Mesa Public Schools has received a ‘B’ grade in the most recent A–F Letter Grade Report from the Arizona Department of Education. The rating is based on multiple performance factors, including student academic growth, proficiency in core subjects such as English language arts, math, and science, progress of English learners, readiness indicators for students at different levels, and high school graduation rates.
The district reported several improvements compared to last year. Sixty-one schools within Mesa Public Schools earned an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade this year, which is nine more than last year. Twenty schools improved by at least one letter grade, while forty maintained their previous year’s grade. Thirty-three K-8 schools earned points for reducing chronic absenteeism. All seven high schools in the district increased their College and Career Readiness Indicator (CCRI) points.
Despite being currently listed as “UR” (under review) on the grades released earlier due to ongoing appeals for some schools, Mesa Public Schools confirmed it will receive a “B” as its overall district grade regardless of those outcomes.
Mesa Public Schools stated that it plans to continue focusing on academic achievement, student support, and community engagement moving forward. “With a strong foundation of excellence, the district remains committed to providing the best possible education for every student,” according to the district’s announcement.
