Red Mountain High School was recognized as the Spotlight School at the Mesa Public Schools board meeting on November 13. This recognition is part of a monthly initiative during the 2025-2026 school year, where one school in the district is highlighted for its achievements and contributions.

During the meeting, Principal Steve Tannenbaum acknowledged three individuals from Red Mountain High School for their significant impact: Robyn Dorsey, Kyle Enders, and Payton Westra.

Robyn Dorsey received recognition as a classified staff member. She works in the school library and supports students, teachers, guest speakers, and various campus initiatives. One of her main roles is leading the Red Mountain Way Campus Recognition Program. Through this program, she helps ensure that students and staff feel valued and appreciated. Last year, more than 5,440 students and 957 staff members were recognized through her efforts. So far this school year, over 2,400 students and 576 staff have been honored.

“At Red Mountain, you are special, and you matter — and Robyn Dorsey makes sure you know it. Her passion, dedication, and heart have helped shape a culture of gratitude and belonging that continues to make Red Mountain an incredible place to learn, work, and grow,” said Principal Tannenbaum.

Kyle Enders was recognized as a certified staff member. He is a graduate of Red Mountain High School who now serves as both a special education teacher and head football coach. He focuses on building trust with students both in academics and athletics.

“For Coach Enders, the program is about more than football; it’s about shaping young men into leaders who value teamwork, discipline, and community. Known as a leader among coaches both on campus and across the state, he is deeply respected for his commitment to excellence and integrity,” said Tannenbaum.

Tannenbaum also noted Enders’ involvement outside of work: “Beyond the classroom and the field, Kyle is a dedicated family man and community member, investing his time and heart into the people who make Red Mountain special. His impact reaches far beyond Friday nights, leaving a lasting mark on every student and athlete he mentors.”

Student-athlete Payton Westra was also honored at the meeting. Ranked 50th out of 851 in her graduating class at Red Mountain High School, she has achieved academic success while competing in several sports at high levels.

“A four-year letter winner in softball and a proud member of Team USA Women’s Softball, Payton has also represented Red Mountain in basketball, badminton, and volleyball. Her athletic excellence is unmatched—earning Player of the Year honors in softball, basketball, and badminton during her time as a Mountain Lion,” said Tannenbaum.

Westra has taken multiple Honors classes along with Advanced Placement (AP) courses while maintaining a strong GPA of 4.3 College Core GPA. She plans to continue her studies at the University of Oklahoma.

“A fantastic representative of Red Mountain High School and Mesa Public Schools, Payton’s dedication, leadership among her peers, and relentless pursuit of excellence have earned her a commitment to continue her academic and athletic journey at the University of Oklahoma,” added Tannenbaum.
