Mesa has been named one of the top ten digital cities in the United States for 2025 by the Center for Digital Government. The recognition is given to cities with populations of 500,000 or more that demonstrate effective use of technology, data, and innovation to improve government transparency and community engagement.
City Manager Scott Butler commented on the award: “Mesa’s top ten ranking reflects our commitment to modernizing city services and grounding our decisions in clear, reliable data. We are always working to improve how we serve our residents, and this recognition shows that using data and technology to drive innovation and efficiency is keeping Mesa on the right track.”
The City of Mesa was recognized for its ongoing efforts to expand economic opportunity and digital access. Initiatives such as the Mesa Business Builder program and the City’s Studios facility provide support for small businesses and entrepreneurs. These programs aim to help local businesses start, grow, and remain competitive in today’s economy. Additionally, Mesa continues its work to provide affordable high-speed internet across the city.
The award also highlights Mesa’s approach to managing public resources through responsible technology investments, updating core systems, and maintaining a skilled digital workforce.
Teri Takai, Chief Programs Officer at the Center for Digital Government, stated: “What stands out this year isn’t just the technology-it’s the impact on constituent services. These cities are applying innovation where it matters most: keeping people housed, making streets safer, and building community trust. They’re showing that when technology is guided by purpose, it delivers results that citizens can feel.”
The Digital Cities Survey recognizes municipalities demonstrating leadership in government innovation through their use of technology.
