Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman has sworn in Dorean Taylor as the new District 2 Councilmember during a special City Council meeting on November 17. The appointment follows the certification of the results from a special election held on November 4, which was prompted by a successful recall petition for the District 2 seat.

Mayor Freeman welcomed Taylor to the council and addressed community priorities. “I want to thank the voters of District 2 for participating in the special election, and welcome Councilmember Taylor,” said Mayor Freeman. “I look forward to continuing to Elevate Mesa with our City Council and the support of City leadership as we focus on the priorities that matter to our community: public safety, strong neighborhoods, economic opportunity, education and workforce development.”

Taylor has lived in Mesa for nearly two decades. She owns a small business and has experience in business analysis, project management, and process improvement. Her stated priorities are focused on maintaining high-quality public safety services, supporting infrastructure maintenance, addressing homelessness, and promoting policies that keep Mesa affordable for families.

“I am honored to have the confidence and trust of District 2 residents,” said Councilmember Taylor. “I will continue to focus on accountability, fiscal responsibility and preserving Mesa’s long-standing community values.”

Taylor will serve out the remainder of the four-year term until January 2029.
