Rep. Andy Biggs, U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 5th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on social media in January 2026 addressing voter identification laws, fraud investigations, and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On January 17, Biggs raised questions about the requirements for identification in daily life compared to voting, stating: “You need an ID to drive. You need an ID to fly. You need an ID to check into a hotel. You need an ID to buy cold medicine. The list goes on. Why shouldn’t you need an ID to vote? Save America. Pass the SAVE Act.”
Later that day, he commented on alleged fraudulent activities affecting aid distribution in Minnesota and announced upcoming congressional hearings: “Massive fraud, like what we’re seeing in Minnesota, prohibits funds from reaching those who actually need it. Next week, my @JudiciaryGOP Subcommittee is bringing in experts—including @nickshirleyy—to get to the bottom of the fraud. Wednesday, 10AM ET. Don’t miss it.”
On January 19, Biggs marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day by sharing a quote from the civil rights leader: “Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. May we all remember: ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.'”
Biggs has served as a congressman since replacing Richard Miranda in 2017 and previously held office in the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2017. Born in Tucson in 1958 and currently residing in Gilbert, Biggs holds degrees from Brigham Young University (BA) and the University of Arizona (JD).
