Rep. Andy Biggs, a U.S. Congressman representing Arizona’s 5th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on November 7, 2025, regarding the ongoing federal government shutdown and legislative negotiations.
On the morning of November 7, Biggs wrote, “Promises made, promises kept.” Later that day, he criticized Democratic lawmakers’ proposals to end the shutdown by extending COVID-era subsidies. In his post at 20:27 UTC, Biggs stated, “The Democrats’ latest unserious demand to reopen the government is an extension of the Biden-era COVID subsidies. A ‘clean’ extension of these subsidies would continue taxpayer-funded abortions and trans surgeries for children. This is reckless and unreasonable.”
Continuing his criticism into the evening, Biggs urged Democrats to take action to end the shutdown and called for congressional hearings related to alleged misuse of government power. At 21:47 UTC he wrote, “It’s time for Democrats to stop playing games and open the federal government. We need to be holding committee hearings to deliver justice to those who weaponized the government against the American people.”
Biggs has represented Arizona’s 5th District in Congress since succeeding Richard Miranda in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2017. Born in Tucson in 1958 and currently residing in Gilbert, Biggs holds degrees from Brigham Young University (BA) and a JD from the University of Arizona.
