Michael Carbone, a representative in the Arizona House, said that Yuma is emerging as a leader in agricultural technology, highlighting Arizona’s vision for the future of farming. This statement was made on the social media platform X.

“Yuma is rapidly becoming a global powerhouse in agricultural technology,” said Carbone, House Representative. “From autonomous farm vehicles to next-generation broadband powering real-time data in the fields, Yuma is leading the way in modern, efficient, and sustainable farming. Arizona is showing the world what the future of agriculture looks like.”

The agricultural technology sector in Yuma, Arizona, has recently experienced significant innovation as regional stakeholders work to position the area as a national hub for ag-tech. Development efforts include high-speed broadband rollout, remote-sensor networks, and blockchain integration for produce traceability and urban farming initiatives. These efforts are driven by Yuma’s unique desert production environment, aiming to establish its farms as test-beds for arid-climate precision agriculture.

According to a 2022 study by the University of Arizona, Yuma County’s agriculture and agribusiness sectors generated approximately $3.9 billion in direct sales within the county and about $4.4 billion in statewide economic activity. The region also ranked third nationally for vegetable, melon, potato, and sweet-potato sales that year.

Recent reports indicate that on the global ag-tech innovation front, countries such as the United States, India, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada lead in ag-tech innovation hubs. The global agriculture market is projected to grow from roughly $15.5 trillion in 2025 to about $20.6 trillion by 2029 at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 7.4%.

Carbone is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives serving District 25, which covers Yuma County and part of western Maricopa County. He currently holds the position of Majority Leader and is involved in legislation related to information technology and agriculture among other areas.
