Rep. Greg Stanton, U.S. Representative from Arizona, has raised concerns about President Trump’s recent foreign policy statements and actions in a series of tweets posted between January 3 and January 4, 2026.

On January 3, Stanton commented on the administration’s approach to Venezuela: “President Trump ran in 2016 attacking the Bush Admin for dragging us into an endless war in Iraq. Now he’s repeating it in Venezuela, claiming his administration is now running that country. It also sends a dangerous signal to Russia & China: if the U.S. can do it, so can they.”

In another post on January 4, Stanton addressed constitutional authority over military action: “The Constitution is never a moot point. It’s a live point, and it makes clear that war powers belong to Congress. Presidents can only defend against attacks. That means President Trump must have Congress’s authorization before engaging in further military action in Venezuela.”

Later the same day, Stanton criticized potential plans for deploying U.S. troops to Mexico: “Trump keeps threatening to unilaterally put American soldiers’ ‘boots on the ground’ in Mexico. This would be a disaster for our security and economic relationship with our North American ally.”

These statements come as Rep. Stanton continues his tenure representing Arizona, having defeated Kelly Cooper in both the 2024 and 2022 general elections.
In the 2024 race, Stanton secured victory with 52.7% of the vote compared to Cooper’s 45.5%.
In the previous election cycle of 2022, he won with 56% against Cooper’s 43.1%.
