Merry Main Street in Mesa is introducing a new event called Santa Paws, where residents can bring their pets to meet Santa Claus. The event will take place every Sunday through December 21 from noon to 4 p.m., located west of the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink next to characters from the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer television special. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own cameras or phones for photos.
Mesa Animal Control will be present at the event, offering information and resources for pet owners. In addition to Santa Paws, Santa will make appearances every Friday and Saturday at The Post, a city-owned community space at 26 N. Macdonald. His last visit before Christmas will be on December 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Merry Main Street runs until January 10 and features activities such as daily ice skating (except on December 25), live entertainment, food trucks, and Friday night movies. More details can be found at merrymainst.com.
The festival is organized in partnership with several organizations including the City of Mesa, Mesa Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Downtown Mesa Association, Visit Mesa, Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Benedictine University, Google Fiber, Nesbitt Contracting, Sysco and VCA Animal Referral & Emergency Center of Arizona.
The Arizona Parks and Recreation Association has recognized Merry Main Street by awarding the City of Mesa the Outstanding Special Event Award for cities with populations over 100,000. This award highlights Merry Main Street’s impact since its inception in 2015.
