Senator David Farnsworth, chairman of the Senate Appropriations and Transportation Committee, has restated his commitment to a comprehensive transportation strategy for Arizona. His focus includes addressing immediate road repairs and exploring new mobility technologies as the state’s population continues to grow.

Farnsworth’s agenda is centered on practical investment, responsible innovation, and improved statewide connectivity. One of his priorities is Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), which refers to electric aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landing—sometimes called “air taxis.” These vehicles are intended for short regional trips without needing traditional runways. According to Farnsworth, AAM could help reduce traffic congestion, support emergency services, and increase access in rural areas.

He has been involved in legislative work related to AAM since 2024. The goal is to establish policies that encourage technological development while ensuring safety and regulatory clarity. Other states have begun implementing similar solutions; for example, Archer Aviation will provide air taxi services at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Farnsworth also noted the expansion of autonomous ground taxis in some parts of Arizona as a model for integrating advanced technology into public infrastructure. He views these efforts as part of a broader plan to modernize transportation systems according to Arizona’s needs.

“The work begins by repairing what is broken, followed by building what comes next,” said Chairman Farnsworth. “Advanced Air Mobility and autonomous vehicles are no longer concepts of the future—they are active technologies with real-world applications. My job is to ensure that Arizona stays ahead of the curve, not behind it. This means pursuing innovative yet grounded solutions that are forward-looking but fiscally responsible. I am committed to collaborating with community partners, technology leaders, and Arizonans to create a transportation system that is safer, smarter, and built for the long haul.”

Warren Petersen was elected as a Republican member of the Arizona State Senate in 2023 representing District 14 after succeeding David Gowan.
