U.S. Representative Greg Stanton has commented on the Department of Justice’s ongoing criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. In a statement released last night, Stanton highlighted the importance of maintaining the independence of the Federal Reserve, describing it as essential to the strength of the U.S. economy.

“The independence of the Fed underpins the strength of the American economy.

For too long, business leaders have stayed silent in the face of Trump’s authoritarianism out of fear of retribution. Today, a red line has been crossed: Trump is threatening the Fed Chair with criminal charges for refusing to bend to his will.

To business leaders and shareholders, now is the time to get very, very loud.”

Stanton has represented Arizona’s 4th Congressional District after defeating Kelly Cooper in both recent general elections. In 2024, he won with 52.7% of votes compared to Cooper’s 45.5%. He also prevailed in 2022 with a margin of 56% over Cooper’s 43.1%.

The full statement and further details are available on Stanton’s official website at https://stanton.house.gov/2026/1/stanton-statement-on-doj-investigation-into-federal-reserve-chair-jerome-powell.
