The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2026, with Representative Greg Stanton of Arizona’s 4th District highlighting several provisions he says will benefit both servicemembers and Arizona.
“This year’s NDAA delivers real improvements for servicemembers struggling with the cost of living, takes concrete steps to demonstrate to our allies that the United States still stands with them, and provides significant oversight measures to counter actions taken by the Trump Administration,” Stanton said. “This bill also delivers big wins for Arizona. I was proud to work across the aisle to invest in our state’s critical defense industry and its military installations.”
The NDAA includes a 3.8% pay increase for all military personnel and introduces protections against arbitrary firings and workforce reductions previously implemented under the Trump administration. The legislation aims to improve health care, housing, and childcare options for those serving in the armed forces.
Stanton collaborated with Republican Representative Abe Hamedeh from Arizona’s 8th District to secure Congressional authorization for three AH-64E Apache helicopters produced by Boeing in Arizona’s Fourth District. The two lawmakers also addressed longstanding air conditioning issues at Luke Air Force Base, requiring the Secretary of the Air Force to provide a plan for reliable cooling systems after years of inadequate HVAC performance.
Working alongside Republican Representative Jen Kiggans from Virginia’s 2nd District, Stanton helped introduce limits on Department of Defense use of commercial off-the-shelf information technology products manufactured in China or by companies influenced by the Chinese Communist Party. Stanton is a member of the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and China.
As co-chair of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, Stanton supported authorizing up to $1 billion for the Taiwan Security Cooperation Initiative, which will help Taiwan obtain U.S. defense equipment, services, and training.
The NDAA also repeals sanctions imposed by the Caesar Sanctions Act on Syria’s former government, a move intended to aid Syria’s economic recovery and international reintegration.
Additional oversight provisions require that funding be withheld until unredacted videos of all military strikes in Latin America are provided along with classified Execute Orders issued by the Department of Defense. The bill also mandates reporting on military aircraft use in immigration operations and details about immigrants detained on military installations.
Greg Stanton has served as representative since defeating Kelly Cooper in both 2022 and 2024 general elections; he won 52.7% of votes in 2024 and 56% in 2022.
