U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton, a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has responded to the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to reduce flights at 40 major airports starting Friday. Stanton said, “In aviation, safety must always be the highest priority. The decision by Secretary Duffy to reduce flights at America’s 40 busiest airports is the right call for the safety of the flying public.”
Stanton called for bipartisan cooperation in Congress following the announcement. He stated, “Now it’s critical that Republicans and Democrats get together and reach a bipartisan agreement on a plan to reduce health costs and end this shutdown.” He added, “Arizona deserves better, and so do the hardworking professionals who keep our skies safe.”
Stanton has held his seat after defeating Kelly Cooper in both recent general elections. In 2024, he won with 52.7% of the vote compared to Cooper’s 45.5%. In 2022, Stanton also defeated Cooper with 56% of votes against Cooper’s 43.1%.
