State Rep. T.J. Shope (R-Coolidge) attended the groundbreaking for the new Lucid Motors facility in Casa Grande earlier this month.
Shope posted about the ceremony on his Facebook page.
"Can’t say how excited I am to be in Casa Grande today for the Lucid Motors groundbreaking," Shope wrote. "Today will be marked as a seminal moment in the history of Pinal County."
Lucid Motors hopes to begin production at the facility in late 2020, according to TechCrunch. The facility will be used to build Lucid Motors' Lucid Air electric sedan.
The company was founded a decade ago under Atieva and focuses on electric car battery technology. The company then changed its name in 2016 and started concentrating on making electric vehicles.
Lucid Motors noted that it chose Casa Grande because of the area's business climate, talent and infrastructure.
