During a recent Chandler City Council meeting, the council discussed the allocation of funds through the AZCares Fund Program, as well as several other items, according to the council's meeting notes.
The council approved three items involving the AZCares Fund Program, which is for addressing the financial toll COVID-19 has taken, according to the notes.
Chandler received $29.9 million from the AZCares Fund on May 29 and decided to use the funds in five different ways: Allocating $1.8 million to the Community Support Program — $1.2 million of which will go toward 32 local agencies and social service programs; $9.5 million will go toward the Business Hiring/Retention Program and $500,000 to the Business Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program; $7.7 million will go toward the Citizen Engagement/Mobility Program; $500,000 to the City Service PPE Program; and $9.9 million to the AZCares Reserve Account for future needs.
The city also approved an agreement with Lyft that will begin Sept. 1 to provide discounted trips to and from bus stops and an agreement with Ritoch Powell & Associates Consulting Engineers for construction management services, among other approvals.
