Gilbert, Ariz. - The Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department is encouraging residents to “Close Before You Doze” with its new community risk reduction campaign.

Fifty percent of home fires occur between 11 PM and 7 AM. When a fire occurs, a closed door can isolate the fire’s flow, reduce room temperatures and keep carbon monoxide levels down to give people time until fire crews can arrive.

Studies show that closed-door rooms have average temperatures of less than 100 degrees Fahrenheit versus 1000+ degrees in open-door rooms.

The department hopes to encourage residents to make closing interior doors part of their nightly bedtime routine.

Fire moves fast. Plan ahead to save lives. Are you ready to Close Before You Doze?
