New Year, New Ways to Give Back in Gilbert

Gilbert, Ariz. – Looking for a way to give back or get involved in your community, Gilbert?

Check out these events taking place this January. 

January 20 | Day of Service to Seniors

Volunteers are needed for Gilbert’s next Day of Service to Seniors on Saturday, January 20.

Gilbert has partnered with Weekly Collective to assist Gilbert seniors with household projects such as light yardwork or maintenance projects.

Projects will be completed between 7:30 AM and 11:30 AM on January 20.

January 23 | Point-In-Time Homeless Count

The Point-in-Time Homelessness Count is an annual street and shelter count to determine the number of people experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County during a given point in time.

The 2023 count revealed that 9,642 individuals were experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County, both sheltered and unsheltered. Read the report.

The Point-in-Time Homelessness Count is part of a national effort to identify the extent of homelessness throughout the country and identify the needs of those experiencing homelessness in our community.

There are two ways Gilbert residents can get involved:

  • Participate in the Count on January 23
     
     Volunteers are needed to interview Gilbert’s unsheltered population for the Town’s annual Point-in-Time Homeless Count from 5:30 AM to 11:30 AM on January 23.
     
    All volunteers are required to attend a training prior to the day of the count. Register here.
     
  • Donate Items for the Homeless Community
     
     Donations are needed to aid those in the community that are experiencing homelessness.
     
     Donations can be dropped off at Gilbert Town Hall (50 E. Civic Center Drive) from Monday through Thursday 7AM - 6 PM. Look for the donation box in the lobby. 
     
     Items needed:
 Socks

Chapstick

Band-Aids

Hand warmers

Waterless shampoo

Combs

Kleenex

  

January 27 | Volunteer Recruitment Fair

Learn more about local volunteer opportunities at Gilbert’s upcoming Volunteer Recruitment Fair at Southeast Regional Library on Saturday, January 27 from 10:00 AM to noon.

Several nonprofit organizations will be onsite with information about how residents can get involved.

January 27 | Regional Unity Walk

Join Gilbert and its neighboring cities to “Walk in UNITY with our commUNITY" on January 27 at Tempe Beach Park.

The event begins at 4:30 PM and will feature entertainment and refreshments. T-shirts will also be available while supplies last.

The one-mile unity walk begins at 6 PM.
