Gilbert, Ariz. - June Morrison, a beloved member of the Gilbert community, celebrated a momentous occasion on her 100th birthday. Family, friends, and community members gathered at HD SOUTH, where the Gilbert Historical Society organized a special party in honor of Morrison's century of life. The celebration took place in the C.W. and Modene Neely Community Room, and it was an opportunity to recognize Morrison's remarkable life and her impact on the town of Gilbert.

As part of the festivities, the museum unveiled a new tribute exhibit dedicated to Morrison. This exhibit showcases a collection of photographs, newspaper articles, and cherished mementos that tell the story of Morrison's life. Visitors can view this display at HD SOUTH until Tuesday, February 20, during regular museum hours.

June Morrison's connection to Gilbert runs deep. Her family, the Neelys, moved to Gilbert from Texas shortly after she was born in 1924. They purchased land off of Elliot Road, where they established a home on a 3,000-acre ranch. Remarkably, Morrison still resides in that same location today.

Morrison's educational journey took place within the Gilbert community. She attended Gilbert Public Schools and graduated from Gilbert High School. In her senior class, which consisted of only 18 students, she met her future husband, Marvin Morrison. Together, they raised three sons: Howard, Scott, and Richard.

Throughout her life, Morrison witnessed and experienced significant world events, including the Great Depression, World War II, space exploration, technological advancements, and the administrations of 17 U.S. presidents. Despite her love for the small-town farm life, Morrison also had a passion for travel.

Aside from her personal accomplishments, Morrison dedicated herself to giving back to her community. She volunteered at her local church and served on various community boards, including the library advisory board to the Gilbert Town Council. Additionally, Morrison was the president of the Chandler Hospital Administrative board from 1987 to 1989.

Morrison and her husband played a significant role in supporting education and public policy. In 1998, they provided seed money to establish the Morrison School for Agribusiness and Resource Management at Arizona State University-East in Mesa. They also contributed seed money for the formation of the Morrison Institute of Public Policy at ASU's main campus in Tempe.

June Morrison's life and legacy have left an indelible mark on Gilbert. Her dedication and contributions to her community will undoubtedly continue to be felt for generations to come.
