The LPGA Tour is set to make its debut in Gilbert, Arizona, with the Ford Championship presented by KCC Tournament scheduled to take place at Seville Golf and Country Club from March 28-31. LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan expressed confidence in the warm reception the tournament will receive, stating, “We know we’ll be fully embraced by the Gilbert community.”
Featuring 144 top golfers from around the world competing for a prize pool of $2 million, Marcoux Samaan highlighted the global nature of the tour, emphasizing, “If fans come out, they’re going to see the best of the best and they’re going to see great competition on an amazing golf course.”
Veteran Tour member and Seville Country Club member Alena Sharp, who received a sponsor’s invitation to the event, shared her excitement, saying, “It’s going to be my honor to compete in front of all my friends here at Seville.” Sharp, expressing a mix of excitement and nerves, acknowledged the pressure of playing in front of her home crowd, noting her advantage of knowing the course well.
The upcoming tournament in Gilbert will mark the 71st time the LPGA Tour has visited Arizona since its establishment in 1950, with Marcoux Samaan praising the state for its favorable weather, passion for golf, and top-notch golf courses. She stated, “This is the home of golf in many ways. We need to be playing here and we’re thrilled to be back.”
