Tempe, AZ - In a bid to enhance affordable housing options for residents in housing voucher programs, the City of Tempe has announced a significant investment to support landlord recruitment and retention. Tim Burch, the Community Health and Human Services Director, emphasized the importance of diversifying housing options and supporting landlord partnerships in Tempe, stating, "By investing in the recruitment and retention of landlords, we’re investing in housing opportunity for all."
As part of this initiative, Tempe is inviting landlords with rental properties in the city to attend a Landlord Mixer on March 26 at the Tempe History Museum. The event aims to provide landlords with an opportunity to network with the Tempe Housing Authority (THA) and learn about program updates and plans for 2024.
One of the key programs introduced to benefit landlords is the Landlord Promise damage claim assistance program. Burch highlighted that the THA is committed to ensuring participating rental properties remain market ready through this program, allowing landlords to focus on providing affordable housing options. Qualified landlords can receive up to $2,500 per claim, per voucher tenant through the program.
In addition to the damage claim assistance, landlords participating in housing voucher programs stand to benefit in various ways, including maximizing rental properties by partnering with the city, receiving stable and competitive rental payments, and enhancing their rental business through collaboration with the city's Housing Navigator.
Landlords interested in participating in the Landlord Mixer can RSVP on the city's website. The first 25 landlords to register and attend the event will receive a free Yeti mug and leather-bound journal. Furthermore, throughout the year, Tempe plans to host both in-person and virtual events to support landlords through networking and resource sharing.
