The Tempe History Museum in Arizona is inviting the public to explore the life and activism of César Chávez through a new exhibit titled "Extending a Hand: César Chávez an Arizona Connection." According to the museum, the exhibit showcases art and stories from individuals who supported, worked with, and were inspired by the renowned civil rights and farm labor leader.

A spokesperson from the museum stated, "The exhibit highlights art and stories from some of the people who supported, worked with and were inspired by this important civil rights and farm labor leader."

The exhibit will debut with an opening reception on Friday, March 29, from 6-9 p.m. at the Tempe History Museum located at 809 E. Southern Ave. The event promises light refreshments, music, performances, and more, and is free for all ages. The exhibit will run until October 6, 2024, with museum hours from Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and free admission for all visitors.

In addition to the main exhibit, the museum will also feature "Corazón del Campo" in the Community Room. This special art exhibition aims to portray the struggles and honor associated with César Chávez's work and history, with artists showcasing an Arizona and Valley connection to Chávez's legacy and the farmworker movement.

The museum shared, "March through July, the gallery will feature artists that have direct experience with Chávez or the farm labor movement. The second installation, on display from July to October 6, will include a group of new artists who were introduced to Chávez through school or family."

Some of the exhibiting artists include Jim Covarrubias, Jose Andres Girón, Jose Benavides, Martin Moreno, and Zarco Guerrero. For those interested in planning a visit to the exhibit, more information can be found on the Tempe History Museum website at tempe.gov/museum.
