The American Public Power Association Recognizes Mesa Electric for Outstanding Safety Practices

Mesa Electric has been honored by the American Public Power Association for its outstanding safety practices in 2023. The utility company received the prestigious Safety Award of Excellence for maintaining safe operating practices, with over 2,000 days without a lost time accident among its electrical staff.

Scott Bouchie, the Energy Resources Department Director at Mesa Electric, expressed pride in the employees' dedication to safety and reliability, stating, “Our employees have demonstrated their commitment to safety and reliability with over five years without a lost time accident. We are extremely proud of them and this achievement. More importantly, we are happy to know our staff goes home safely to their families after every shift.”

The recognition from the American Public Power Association places Mesa Electric in the Gold Status category for utilities with 60,000-109,999 worker-hours of annual exposure. More than 160 utilities participated in the annual Safety Awards for 2023, with entrants evaluated based on their incident-free records, safety programs, and overall safety culture during the year.

Scott McKenzie, Chair of APPA’s Engineering and Operations Conference safety track, highlighted the importance of safety in the industry, stating, “In our industry, safety has to be top of mind all day every day. These honored utilities have demonstrated a commitment to safety that runs through every aspect of their organizations.”

Mesa Electric's commitment to safety and its employees' dedication to maintaining a safe work environment have earned them this prestigious recognition from the American Public Power Association.
