CHANDLER, Ariz. — The City of Chandler is gearing up to provide essential heat relief services starting May 1, as reported on April 18, 2024. An intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between Chandler and Maricopa County has paved the way for the provision of these crucial services.

As part of the agreement, a day respite center will be established at the Salvation Army Chandler Corps, offering a safe haven for residents and individuals experiencing homelessness to cool down and recover from the scorching heat. The center will operate from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with provisions for Sunday openings during excessive heat warnings.

Maricopa County will provide transportation to and from the day respite centers, along with marketing support and signage. Residents in need of transportation can reach out to Solari at 2-1-1.

Last year, Chandler collaborated with local organizations to offer heat relief services, serving a significant number of individuals in need. This year, with funding from Maricopa County's Department of Public Health, Chandler is set to continue its efforts independently.

With the National Weather Service predicting above-normal temperatures for the upcoming heat season, the City of Chandler's heat relief services are anticipated to play a crucial role in supporting the community during challenging times.

For those interested in contributing to the cause, more information about the Maricopa County Heat Relief Network and donation opportunities can be found on the Chandler Heat Relief website.
