Tempe, AZ - With temperatures soaring above 100 degrees in the Valley, the City of Tempe has taken proactive measures to ensure the well-being of its residents as the summer heat approaches.

In response to the scorching temperatures, the city has opened cooling center sites citywide and deployed a mobile cooling trailer to provide additional assistance, especially to individuals experiencing homelessness. As part of the initiative, Tempe is also urging residents who require aid with rent, utility bills, or emergency home repairs to avail themselves of the available community resources.

According to city officials, the rising temperatures are posing significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups. The city highlights the importance of staying hydrated, taking breaks in the shade, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the heat. Additionally, residents are advised to check on at-risk individuals daily and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

The City of Tempe is actively participating in Arizona Heat Awareness Week from May 6-10, collaborating with health authorities to raise awareness about heat-related illnesses and preventive measures. The city's efforts align with the Arizona Department of Health Services and the City of Phoenix in promoting education and preparedness for extreme heat conditions.

Residents in need of cooling off can visit various designated cooling center locations across the city, where they can hydrate and seek refuge from the heat. Moreover, Jenny's Trailer, the city's mobile cooling center, is now operational, offering a space for individuals to cool down, access resources, and receive support from HOPE homeless outreach specialists.
