Hunter Contracting Co. has been awarded a construction agreement change order for the Tumbleweed Park Pickleball Facility by the Chandler City Council at their meeting on September 12, 2024.

In response to the growing interest in pickleball in Chandler, the City Council approved the design of the Tumbleweed Park Pickleball Facility in October 2023. The facility will be located on the southeast corner of Germann Road and Pioneer Parkway.

Community Services Director John Sefton announced that the new Tumbleweed Pickleball Facility will nearly triple Chandler's outdoor courts. "Pickleball’s popularity has grown rapidly in our community, and it's essential to expand our recreation programs and facilities to meet the demand among our residents. This new facility will offer affordable, accessible opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities."

In July, Hunter was awarded a construction agreement to help procure materials for this project with a long lead time or items that may have increased costs over time.

This planned change order, amounting to no more than $8,415,866.94, allows Hunter Contracting to move forward with constructing 18 outdoor pickleball courts and accompanying restrooms, practice areas, equipment storage, drinking fountains, and parking. Additionally, three tennis courts and LED lighting updates at the Chandler Tennis Center are included in this project.

Relatedly, the Council also awarded a professional services agreement for construction management services to Dibble CM, LLC for an amount not exceeding $482,135.

The Tumbleweed Park Pickleball Facility broke ground in early September with construction scheduled to begin in October 2024. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2025. For updates, visit Chandler Pickleball.
